Bright light, gritty soil, and a specific seasonal watering schedule: water deeply in spring/fall when dry, stop in summer (dormant), and keep dry in winter, only resuming spring watering after old leaves wither, to prevent root rot and mimic their arid habitat. Overwatering is the biggest killer, so always check soil dryness and plant appearance, letting them rest during dormancy.
