Shopping Local, Made Easy

Free browser extension · Works anywhere in the USA

Never Miss a Local Alternative

Shopping on Amazon, Walmart or Target? Myti Local Finder quietly checks whether an independent shop near you carries the same thing, so your dollars can stay in your community.

Heads up: your browser will show a warning that Myti can "read and change" data on all websites. Any extension that works on every site gets that same warning. Here's what Myti actually does ↓

Our privacy promise

  • We never sell what the extension sends us. To anyone.
  • We only receive what Myti needs. When you search a store, that's your search term, your location and the store's name, plus a few technical details listed below. The pages you browse are never sent to us.
  • For location, we keep only your ZIP code, town and state. Never your address or exact location.

Everything Myti Receives, and Why

Myti exists to keep money and power in our community — not to hand it to the data brokers we're working against. Nothing the extension sends us is sold, or used to target ads. This is the complete list of what the extension sends us.

The complete list

What we receiveWhy
Your search terme.g. "wool socks"To look for a local shop that carries it.
Your locationthe ZIP code, town, address or intersection you type inTo find shops near you. Myti turns what you type into a point on the map to measure distances. We keep only your ZIP code, town and state, never your address or exact location.
The store you searched one.g. amazon.com, not the page you were onTo know which stores Myti needs to work well on.
The local shop you clickand how many seconds after your search you clickedTo show local shops how many customers Myti sends their way, and to learn whether our results are useful.
A random install numbermade up the first time you search; not linked to your name or emailTo count how many people use Myti. It also shows us when several searches come from the same install, but never who you are.
Your browser and computer typee.g. "Chrome on Mac"To fix bugs that only happen on some browsers.
Your IP addressnever saved with your dataTo block abuse. We don't save it with your searches or clicks. Our hosting providers keep standard logs for a short time.
A shop report, if you send one"Verify Local" or "Report Chain" in the popupTo keep our list of local shops accurate. It includes the shop's name and website, what you searched, and your town.
Feedback, if you send itTo improve Myti and reply to you. It includes your message, your town, your Myti version, and your email only if you add it.

What Myti never sends us

  • Your name
  • Your passwords or payment info
  • What you buy
  • The pages you browse
  • Anything on .gov, .edu or .org sites, DMV sites, and many major search, email, social media, news and streaming sites. Myti switches itself off there

You're in control

Turn Myti off for any site from the popup (it takes effect when you reload the page). Uninstall anytime and everything Myti stored in your browser is erased. Want us to delete what we have? Email wecare@myti.com.

To find shops and run the extension, we use a few service providers: Google and OpenStreetMap for maps and finding shops, Anthropic (an AI service) to match search terms to the right kinds of shops, our web and database hosts, and our team chat for feedback. To check what nearby shops have in stock, we also send your search term to those shops' own online stores. We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. The full details, including every provider we use, are in our privacy policy. About That Scary-Sounding Warning

Your browser will show a message like this one. It's worded for the worst-case extension out there — here's what it actually means for Myti.

Exact wording varies by browser.

Why does it ask for "all websites"?

Because Myti works on hundreds of shopping sites, and browsers don't let an extension ask for "just the stores." It's all sites or a short list — so we ask for all, and switch off ourselves on the sites that aren't shopping.

Does it change anything?

No. Myti only reads the page, on your computer, to check whether it looks like a store search. It never changes a page, never fills in forms, and never touches your cart or checkout.

What gets sent to Myti?

Nothing while you browse. Myti only sends something when you do one of these:

  • Search on a shopping site. We get your search term, your location and the store's name.
  • Type your ZIP code or address into the Myti popup. We look it up to find shops near you.
  • Click a local shop, report a shop, or send feedback in the popup.

Each one sends only what's in the list above, nothing more.

Works while you shop on

  • Amazon
  • Walmart
  • Target
  • Chewy
  • Kohl's
  • Costco
  • Etsy
  • IKEA

…and hundreds of other online stores

Your Dollar Does More at a Local Shop

Studies in cities across the U.S. found that independent retailers return over three times as much of each dollar to their local economy as national chains.
