Both buildings glow with colorful lights, and a holiday tune plays while the cars travel up and down, just like the last lift of a winter evening. On a mantel, sideboard, or shop window, it tends to stop people and keep them watching.

Aerial passenger lifts go back to 1908, when the Wetterhorn Aufzug in Switzerland started carrying brave tourists up a sheer cliff near Grindelwald. It hauled them up the rock face in an open cabin with a very long view down. Ski country took to the idea, and cable cars became part of every mountain town's winter scene. This version skips the vertigo and gives you all the wonder at tabletop scale, snowcapped peak and evergreen trees included.
