Holly Stripe Wrap (Sage and Cranberry)
Cream pinstripes run top to bottom across a soft sage ground, and winding through them are trailing vines of holly, dark stems, sage leaves, and cranberry-red berries. The stripes keep the vines in line, so the whole sheet looks like a garland that someone carefully hung on the wall, one sprig at a time.
Stripes and sprigs were a Victorian favorite. In the nineteenth century, English wallpaper designers paired vertical stripes with climbing botanicals, and the Victorians then carried those same patterns into their Christmas decorating: garlands over doorways, greenery along the mantel, and holly tucked into every frame. Holly was a particular favorite, and its berries, which appear only on the female plants, were thought to bring good luck to the household. This paper keeps that old-fashioned charm and gives it a long, generous roll to work with.
