Religious Favorites Christmas Card Set - Joy
Isaac Watts gave the world "Joy to the World" in 1719, when he published it as a paraphrase of Psalm 98, and it has since become one of the most sung hymns of the season. The idea of joy runs through the Christmas story from the very beginning. In Luke 2:10, the angel tells the shepherds, "I bring you good tidings of great joy," and the message has been repeated by Christians ever since. The eight-pointed star, meanwhile, has long been linked to the Star of Bethlehem, and early Christian artists often gave it eight points to suggest a new beginning, since the eighth day follows the seven days of creation.
This landscape card spells out "JOY" in bold black serif letters, framed by a double-line border on a cream background. Between the J and the Y sits a large eight-pointed star, colored in a rainbow of hues that give it a bright, almost stained-glass glow. Gold foil traces the edges of the star, along with the J and the Y, so the word seems to catch the light as the card turns.
Inside, the verse reads: "Embrace the joy of the season."
